What Readers have to say about Bringing Them Home:

I am so excited to share this next book with you.

Bringing Them Home is a fictional novel packed with both encouragement and practical information for homeschool families, or those considering homeschooling.  The author is a homeschool mom, as well as a passionate advocate, educating others about the problems with government-run education.

Although it is a fictional account, the dialogue and the characters mirror a real life family that begins as so many do, with doubts about the schools where their children attend.  Meet the Knight family, and follow them on their journey from thinking homeschooling is “weird” to fully embracing the lifestyle.  Along the way, they are supported by other, more experienced homeschool families, deal with some who don’t understand their decision, and share their struggles and successes as they figure out what works for their family.

Since the goal of the book is to introduce those considering homeschooling and encourage families who are already on the journey, Mrs. Wiens weaves both practical information, as well as, the emotional thought process that takes place as a family adjusts to the changes that homeschooling brings.  This is not a “how-to” book, yet homeschool moms will find themselves picking up helpful tips woven throughout the story.  The best thing about this novel is how the author lets you inside the head and heart of these parents who are striving to do what is best for their children.  Parents, especially moms, will find themselves relating to the inner struggle that we face when we navigate the days, months and years of our homeschooling journey.

This is a great book to encourage new homeschoolers, and even more beneficial to those who are considering removing their children from the school system.  Although there is not a lot of new information for those who have been homeschooling for several years, I still found myself encouraged and my ideals reinforced, which we all need when we are swimming upstream in this culture!

“Oh, my goodness! I just finished reading Bringing them Home and I loved it!! ...
I have only been homeschooling for a year now and much of what the main character went through, all her thoughts, fears, and prayers, I went through as well … and I still do to a large extent!! The book really opened my eyes to the fact that I am not alone is this big homeschooling sea, there are many of us, real and fictional, going through it together and we all have these fears. I am sure I will reread this book very soon, I absolutely loved it!
I cannot wait for your next book to come out!
Thank you so much;” ~ K. Homeschool Blog

“Recently I purchased “Bringing Them Home” by Elizabeth Wiens, … Oh boy…I was in LOVE immediately.  Now I’ve read a LOT of homeschooling books (there aren’t too many that aren’t on my shelves and it’s only a matter of time before they make their way there anyway) but this one has become my new, all time favourite! … It’s the ultimate “inside a homeschooler’s head” experience…scary, I know, but great to read!!! …It’s refreshing, different and rings so very true.  …Any book I read after this is going to be a disappointing comparison.”  ~T. Homeschool blogger from Australia

“I loved the way you shared Cassy’s struggles (most of them the same as mine!) and also how she handed them over to God.  Wow, everything about the book was just so good. From the stirrings in her heart to first homeschool (and her avoiding those stirrings!) to the wonderful family moments they have together. …Although I have only been homeschooling for a few years, I feel like I have already read lots of homeschooling books (it has become a bit of a hobby for me) your book has become my all time favorite. It is so encouraging, and thought provoking and such a page turner. I can’t wait to hear more of the Knight family adventures. I have already decided this will be THE book I will give to anyone thinking about homeschooling, or already homeschooling and needing encouragement. Thankyou SOOOOOOO much.”  ~Letter from D.B. in Australia

“The characters in this book are lovable and are so realisitic, it could be any one of our neighbors. I was inspired, encouraged and entertained as I read. I have always wanted someone to write a novel all about homeschoolers and Elizabeth Wien has done and outstanding job.” ~S.W., The Old Schoolhouse Homeschool Crew

Are our children worth investing our lives into theirs? Do you yearn for a deeper relationship with your kids? Do you wonder what they are thinking but don't have the time to discover their loves and longings? Is family high on your priority list? Do you want them to grow up like you? Do you want them to treasure a faith in a living loving Saviour and King? Why would a family choose to live on a one parent income? Is the huge commitment worth it? You better believe it. Whether you decide to investigate the opportunity of home education or not you will be challenged with our responsibility as parents to bring up our children in the nurture and admonition of the LORD and to pass God's blessing on to others. For those already in the biblical homeschooling community it will be an encouragement to you and a tool to give to others to help them understand why we do what we do. I've watched the author's labour of love. She has lived this journey. I've observed the many hours the author has poured into the pages of this book to challenge you with the value of your family. She's my wife. Check out the book. It's an investment. You won't regret it!
